and love.Friendship doesn’t mean that you have treat each other the same way. Friendship also doesn’t mean that you always have to be nice to each other.
In Takao and Midorima’s case, friendship means understanding and accepting each other’s strengths and weaknesses. It means sticking together and looking out for each other. It means respecting each other’s interests and priorities.
Takao explained before that Midorima was a rival he wanted to beat. He was initially interested in Midorima because he wanted to be of equal ground to him and he wanted to be recognized by him. Somewhere along the way, while keeping up with Midorima’s practice sessions and weird hobbies, Takao became close to Midorima and managed to gain his trust. And it doesn’t end there — their relationship is not one-sided.
Knowing Midorima’s personality, I don’t think he would allow someone, especially someone of Takao’s personality, to stick to him, to influence him, and to involve himself in his personal life. The only reason why Midorima can order Takao around like that is because he feels comfortable enough to do so. He knows that even by acting selfishly like he does with Takao, it would be fine. At the same time, Takao’s influence is slowly changing Midorima. It may not be very obvious, but his gentle (dere) side is starting to come out.
Daisuke Ono (Midorima’s seiyuu) said it too. Midorima’s nothing without Takao. And Takao’s probably the same. Without Midorima, he wouldn’t be of much use.
This is why I love them. Even without resorting to any fujoshi delusions, I can totally explain why they deserve each other — even if just as friends.
